Tinubu Didn’t Mean He’d Reduce People’s Purchasing Power  By Farooq Kperogi My Saturday column was anchored on a viral soundbite from 2019 of Bola Tinubu saying, “If we reduce the purchasing power of the people, we can further slow down the economy. Let’s widen the tax net. Those who are not paying now, even if it is inclusive of Bola Tinubu, let the net get bigger and we take in more taxes, and that is what we must do in the country." He did utter those words, but the context was intentionally distorted with intent to deceive. This Cybersecurity Levy is not a policy or regulation of the Tinubu administration. Those bandying that claim are either ignorant or dishonest. This is a policy that has existed since 2015. Like many things in the Buhari administration, it was implemented in breach, which is why Cyber Security suffered under that unfortunate administration.  The reason why Binance was able to siphon $25 billion, which represents 6% of our GDP, out of Nigeria in just one year is because our cybersecurity architecture is porous. And as long as it is vulnerable, the Naira cannot be stable. Once a Media Girl, always a Media Girl❤️ On Saturday, I got featured on a television show, the second time, as a presenter on the programme, “Everything that Concerns you”. The first time I ever did (frame 2&4) was in my finals during our broadcast production as the anchor of the programme, “You & your Brand” in 2020.  I have always been a media girl, but I thought the zest was gone as I had lost touch of being in a typical traditional media landscape for like 3 years. Lionel Messi has a date with destiny 🏆 Argentina will play the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. Lionel Messi scored a goal and provided two assists as the Copa America holders beat Croatia 3-0.
